A bedazzling sight to behold on George Street, The Printing Press decorations are only a sample of the festive environment within. Located in Edinburgh’s old printing press, thisnew restaurant had a mix of elegant and vintage décor touches; I felt swooped back to a toned down Gatsby-esque era—warm, but classy. My date and I went full on seafood for our 3-course meal, and each course did not disappoint. My hand-picked crab starter readied my mouth for the succulent main dish to follow: local North Atlantic cod roasted with cepes, braised lentils, kale, and celeriac. This dish truly encompassed the meaning of savoury. Each bite was a confetti of flavours: tender cod, juicy vegetables, all spiced to perfection. My winter greens complimented the cod impeccably. Our bottle of Arc des Anges Vermentino Sauvignon Blanc danced with each flavour in a decadent tango. The chocolate and salted caramel pot ended the night in a smooth manner, adding the necessary touch of sweet to our savoury meal. We were surrounded by bubbly groups of friends; I can see families, friends, and co-workers making The Printing Press their restaurant of choice for celebratory occasions or even just a nice dinner out. I certainly will.
